Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #1 Albus Dumbledore

“I had proven, as a very young man, that power was my weakness and temptation. I was safer at Hogwarts. ”

Dumbledore may have made many mistakes in his youth, but he’d spent the rest of his long life trying to make up for them. Despite his secrets and solid belief in “the greater good”, I think he’s a great person with his kind heart, eccentricity, ability to the best in everyone and most importantly, belief in second chances.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #2 Hermione Granger

“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery.”

With Hermione Granger, JKR created a role model for all the young girls to look up to. Despite all other influences of our society and generation that try to promote how important a persons image is, Hermione Granger taught all of us the power of knowledge and intellect, and to never dumb ourselves down to be accepted. She also taught us —with S.P.E.W— to always try to help the ones who need it, even if everyone around you may be trying to persuade you against it. With her intelligence, bravery, loyalty, strength and compassion, I look up to Hermione in many more ways than one.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #3 Remus Lupin

“I was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life.”

Same as Sirius, I feel like his life has been wasted away because of a friends betrayal when he could have done much more with his life. I admire his intelligence, and his calm and collected nature. It’ll always sadden me that he won’t get to see Teddy growing up, but he died for a noble cause —to make a world in which his son could live a happier life— and not in vain.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #4 Sirius Black

“Then you should have died! Died rather than betray your friends, as we would have done for you!”

Thinking about Sirius always makes me feel unbelievably sad. His whole life was wasted away in imprisonment first in Azkaban, later in his old house. Yet until the very end he remained loyal to his friends, and eventually died protecting their son. He may have been bitter and rough from time to time, but he was a brave man with a very good heart.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #5 Harry Potter

“There are no more Horcruxes. It’s just you and me now, Voldemort.”

He was just a kid who had a shitty life with his abusing guardians, and suddenly he was thrown into something that was much, much bigger than him with a tremendous responsibility on his shoulders. Despite all the horrible things that happened to him —despite carrying Voldemort in him, for Merlin’s sake— he remained good and true. He risked his life for others over and over again. And for that, I think he’s amazing.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #6 Luna Lovegood

“Oooh look, a Blibbering Humdinger!”

Come on now, who doesn’t love Luna? She’s independent, brave, perceptive, smart, but most importantly, strong in her own way. She lives how she wants to live, and doesn’t give a damn what everyone else thinks. She taught me that being different is nothing to be ashamed of.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #7 Fleur Delacour

“What do I care how ‘e looks? I’m good looking enough for both of us, I theenk!”

I know that not many people are fond of Fleur because she’s too opinionated. But I feel differently. Her undeniably strong and true love for Bill —as she has proven after he was scarred— and the loyalty she’s shown Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys through the war, despite the fact that it wasn’t even her own country that was struggling, made me respect her so much. However arrogant and shallow she may appear at first, she’s actually a very strong and true lady with lots of love for everyone.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #8 Neville Longbottom

“I’ll join you when hell freezes over. Dumbledore’s Army!”

Throughout the series, we’ve witnessed Neville transforming from a shy, clumsy little boy to a brave and bold defender of Hogwarts, as well as everything that’s right and true. He’s a very worthy pupil to Gryffindor House, and son to Frank and Alice Longbottom.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #9 Severus Snape

“Look… at… me.”

Snape obviously hasn’t got a very likeable, easy-going personality. But despite his snarky manner, he’s a brave man who’s loved someone with all his heart, and laid down his life for that love in the end. He’s a true hero who sacrificed his life for his love, and for what’s right.

Top 10 Favourite Harry Potter Characters — #10 Nymphadora Tonks

“You see, she still wants to marry him, even though he’s been bitten! She doesn’t care!”

I find Tonks very amusing, with her clumsiness, eccentric style and great sense of humour. I also admire her courage and loyalty. I’ve doubt that she’d be a great wife and mother if given the chance to live a normal life with her family.
